Battery Backup

The Battery Backup was designed for networked computer systems that are used in warehouses to monitor and control fridge and freezer temperatures.

The Mains Power is supported by diesel generators; however when there is a power failure, the switch over to the generators is unreliable and very electrically noisy and this was causing problems with the computer systems.

Brantham Electronics designed a small battery backup board to be fitted between the computer power supply and processor board. When the power fails, the electrical transients are suppressed and the batteries supply the necessary power until the generators can provide stable power. If the generators fail to function then the processor board can report this to the server before saving data and shutting down.
