Peltier cooled helmet

Brantham Electronics designed the control electronics for various projects using Peltier devices.  These devices have two faces and when a current is passed through them a temperature difference is created between the two sides. By keeping the hot side at the ambient temperature the cold side can be used for cooling.

The devices are used in baseball caps, cycle helmets and fencing masks to cool the wearer’s forehead. In one project for cycle racing, the timing and cooling pattern can be pre-programmed from a laptop computer before the start of an event so that maximum cooling is produced when needed most. On less demanding sectors of the race the cooling is reduced to preserve battery life.
