Queen Victoria Exhibit

The Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Exhibit is one of three recreations of scenes from famous books written during Queen Victoria's reign. This particular scene shows the moment when Dr Jekyll changes into Mr Hyde in the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson.

The room is near darkness, illuminated by a single light over a mirror showing the reflection of Dr. Jekyll. When the visitor pushes the button  the audio track starts to play. The track was created in a studio and digitally stored on a solid state player. The audio track tells the story accompanied by appropriate sound effects, which are synchronised with a four-channel light controller.

At the moment when Dr Jekyll is transformed into Mr Hyde the lights are extinguished and the light behind the half-mirror illuminates the monstrous face of Mr Hyde - appearing to the audience as though the reflection of Dr Jekyll's face has changed. This is accompanied by evil laughter from the audio track. After a few seconds the light goes off and Dr Jekyll is illuminated once again, waiting for the next visitor to press the button.
