Time Machine

The Time Machine exhibition is one of three recreations of scenes from famous books written during Queen Victoria's reign. This particular scene shows the moment when the Machine goes forward in time from the book by H G Wells.

The scene is of a room with a window, behind which there is a 46-inch LCD monitor showing an image of a Victorian garden. When the visitor pushes the button a four-channel light controller starts the DVD player which plays a sequence and the wheel at the back of the time machine starts to turn.

The audio track from the DVD tells the story and contains the sound of the wheel speeding up.

As time goes forward the scene through the window changes to indicate the centuries passing, with the associated background sounds. The lights in the room flicker to indicate surges as power is required for the time machine.

When the sequence comes to an end time the scene freezes and the wheel stops, the lights go off and the window image goes black before returning to the starting position showing the Victorian garden.
